Killa Beatz Entertainment was founded in 2008 by Clay”Killa” Phillips and R.o.X and now has expanded into a family, with Lara “Deez” and Shumick on the team.
Clay “Killa” Phillips: Founder, Producer, and Artist
At the age of eight, I can remember managing three bands while playing the guitar, drums, and piano. I started in heavy metal and ended in hip-hop. Music has always been a part of my life partly because of my mom and sister. I can remember my mom forcing me to play piano and my sister listening to rap music until she, actually she never stopped. From Snoop Dogg to TuPac, it didn’t matter who was singing I would listen. Soon after, I started to rap which led me to be an all-star player when it came to the music game. Once I was introduced to R.o.X it was over. We started Killa Beatz Entertainment in 2008 and plan to dominate the music industry in the years to come.
R.o.X: Co-Founder, Music Manager, and Artist
Born September 22, 1984 it was said he was given birth to by his mother, who at the time was asleep and had no knowledge it was happening. Life would soon show that this event was the only thing that would come easy for him. I started rapping when I was locked up in Philadelphia and my cellmate used to turn my poetry into flows. With the love I had for music, it was just a matter of time before I started rapping. Hence the name R.o.X–Reason of Xistence. What makes me unique is the fact that I didn’t choose to do music, music chose me. I go to sleep thinking of lyrics and wake up the same way. I simply can’t control it! I am working on my first mastered complete album, Writer’s Block, dropping April 10th and getting our label, Killa Beatz Entertainment the exposure needed to do great things. The inspirations in my life I give thanks to are Tupac, who will always be my biggest musical inspiration but my sister is my biggest motivator. Seeing that she made it through the storm lets me know that nothing is impossible.
Lara Phillips: Art Director, Marketing, and Design
I fell in love with hip-hop at a very early age. I loved everything about it—the beats, the words, the way it moved my soul. It inspired my artist within, and helped shape me into who I am today. I graduated from Ohio University in 2004 with a B.F.A. in Graphic Design. Since then I have expanded my career into the music industry focusing on web design, search engine optimization, online marketing, and social media. Some of my clients/projects include: Chicago Hip Hop Connects, Chicago Hip Hop Exposure, Summer Jam MPLS (Jeremih, Hurricane Chris, and the GS Boyz), Vanessa Sims, JVS Records, City Wide Youth, The Remix Entertainment, Lpdeezign and Killa Beatz Entertainment. Shumick: A&R, Songwriter, and Marketing
Music has always been something that motivates me. I feel like it’s running through my body and once I started working with Killa Beatz Entertainment, I truly realized my love for it. I would always memorize the lyrics of the songs I listened too and that inspired me to begin writing. At the age of 13 I started writing poetry and achieved the cover page of a poetic book called “Whispers”. I soon transformed my poetry writing into musical lyrics and found a new love for that. Now that I write lyrics and help promote KBE, I am ready to succeed in this business. Failure isn’t an option and the sky is the limit for me and for Killa Beatz Entertainment.
